Effective Date: October 2, 2026

Welcome to Pocket Tools (Package Name: com.example.pockettools). Your privacy is of paramount importance to us. This Privacy Policy describes our data practices and explains how information is handled when you use our Android mobile application.

1. What Data We Collect and Where It Is Stored

Pocket Tools is designed with an offline-first architecture. All your calculations, conversion results, QR codes generated, age and date inputs, favorites, and UI theme preferences are stored locally on your device using Android DataStore (SharedPreferences). None of your personal data, calculation results, or tool history ever leaves your device. We do not own, operate, or maintain any cloud servers or remote databases that collect, track, or store your usage data.

2. Live Currency Exchange Rates and Network Usage

When you use the Currency Converter tool, the App connects to a trusted public financial exchange rate API via secure HTTPS solely to retrieve current world currency exchange rates. These rates are cached locally on your device so that you can continue using the converter even without an active internet connection. No personal data, user identifier, or transaction data is sent during this process.

3. Third-Party Advertising (Google AdMob)

To provide Pocket Tools as a free utility application, we display advertisements served by the Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob). AdMob may collect and process non-personally identifiable technical identifiers to deliver personalized or non-personalized advertisements, track ad performance, and detect invalid traffic or fraud.

  • Information processed by Google may include device advertising identifiers (Google Advertising ID / GAID), coarse IP address, device brand and model, operating system version, and general diagnostic or crash metrics.
  • All advertising-related data collection is managed directly by Google and governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.
  • To learn how Google manages advertising data and your opt-out options, visit How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

4. Camera Permission — QR Scanner

The QR Scanner tool uses your device camera exclusively on-device to scan QR codes in real time. The camera is only accessed when you actively open the QR Scanner screen. No images, video frames, or camera feeds are stored, transmitted, or shared with any server or third party. Camera access is governed entirely by Android’s runtime permission system — you can revoke camera permission at any time from your device settings.

5. Android Device Permissions and Their Scope

Pocket Tools requests only the absolute minimum permissions required for operation:

  • INTERNET: Used solely to download public currency exchange rate updates and to load advertisements provided by Google AdMob.
  • CAMERA: Used exclusively on-device when you open the QR Scanner. No images or video are ever stored or transmitted.
  • ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Used to verify network connectivity before fetching exchange rates or requesting ads, avoiding unnecessary retries when offline.
  • com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID: Used by Google AdMob to access the standard Google Advertising ID for ad frequency capping and analytics, in compliance with Google Play Store developer policies.

We do not request or access sensitive device permissions such as your Microphone, Contacts, Precise Location, SMS, Photos/Media, Phone Storage, or Biometric data.

6. User Data Control and Deletion

Because all your data is stored strictly on your device, you maintain full control at all times:

  • Favorites: You can add or remove tool favorites directly from the Home screen at any time.
  • Recent Tools: Recently opened tools shown on the Home screen are stored only on your device and are cleared when you clear app data.
  • Reset Settings: You can restore default preferences (theme, currency, decimal precision) directly within the App’s Settings menu.
  • Manual Data Clearing: You can wipe all app data at any time via Settings > Apps > Pocket Tools > Storage > Clear Storage / Clear Data.
  • Uninstall: Uninstalling Pocket Tools permanently and irreversibly deletes all locally saved favorites, recent tool history, and cached settings from your device.

7. Opt Out of Personalized Ads

You can opt out of personalized advertising served by Google AdMob at any time by going to Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID (or Opt out of Ads Personalization) on your Android device, or by visiting https://adssettings.google.com.

8. Children’s Privacy

Pocket Tools does not intentionally collect, solicit, or maintain personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Union/UK), in accordance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Since the App operates on-device without user account registration, no personally identifying information is ever collected or requested.

9. Security

We value your trust in using Pocket Tools. All network communications (fetching live currency rates and ad delivery) use encrypted HTTPS/TLS protocols. Local app data is protected by the Android sandbox environment, which prevents other applications from accessing your saved preferences and tool data.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in app features, platform policies, or legal guidelines. Any updates will be published on this page with a revised “Effective Date” at the top. Continued use of Pocket Tools after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
